Modern Planting Design for a Suffolk Farmhouse.
This design was created for an empty half acre site beyond the existing garden of a modern Suffolk farmhouse. The client’s brief was for drama and scale, but no formality. Bold swathes of grasses and perennials are combined with multistem trees, conifers and rugosa roses, surrounded by a beech hedge which will eventually have a moon gate looking east across a wilder area of grassland. These photos show the garden only a few months after planting, but most of the perennials and grasses are holding their own. It will be a while before the beech hedge, trees and roses grow large enough to add the enchanted forest feel that was the inspiration for the design. But already it’s a place for the clients to retreat to and enjoy.
